First major bridge structure complete

The benefits of the Gateway Upgrade North project are being realised by the community with the new Nudgee Road bridge officially opening to road, cyclist and pedestrian traffic in September.

The new bridge (which replaces the old Nudgee Road bridge located further south) will reduce congestion and improve safety for traffic in the Nudgee area and also the surrounding network. The bridge also features a cycling and pedestrian path, connecting active transport users to and from local paths over the motorway.

The full interchange upgrade at Nudgee Road will ultimately deliver extended on and off-ramps to support traffic growth.

The Nudgee Road bridge is the first major structure to be completed and one of 13 bridge structures being upgraded as part of the Gateway Upgrade North project.

With the new bridge now open, decommission of the old bridge has begun and will be undertaken over the next few months.

A video of the Nudgee Road bridge construction can be seen here.
